I have been focussing this month on talking about handling capability, absence and misconduct issues in your business and so I thought I would also share some tips and advice on how to celebrate success and reward those in your business that make a difference every single day.

How often have you thanked your best employees?
Typical answer is generally not as often as you would like. This is because unfortunately those who are not performing in your business do demand a great level of your time and attention to deal with.
Here are some ideas that businesses we work with use just to make their best employees fee valued.
1) Thank you cards
Send a card to recognise particular events such as a testimonial received from a client, a new key client, perfect attendance, exceeding their sales targets – whatever is relevant
2) Employee of the Month
Recognise visually those who have excelled, perhaps by having their photo prominently displayed for all visitor to the business to see or having an aware they keep on their desk.
3) Team Night Out
In expensive but a social event to thank your team for a job well done goes a long way to building loyalty.
4) Earn bonus holiday / duvet day
Set a standard and for those who exceed you may reward with a bonus day off – this works well for perfect attendance or similar areas.
5) Appraisals or 121s
How often do you actually take the time out to review performance and listen to the ideas or concerns your employees have? This doesn’t have to be a big formal appraisal but a regular sit down can work wonders.
6) Performance linked bonuses
Why not reward financially those who are bringing more profit to your business?
There are lots of ideas I could list however the main point is that simple recognition and thanks is often forgotten and valued greatly by our staff so the next time you see a job well done remember to point that out.
